April 23, to April 29, is National Volunteer Week in Canada; to that end, to foster a spirit of co-operation and unity among Canadians, I would urge everyone to volunteer to do something during the next week! We should come together, to help to develop the Canadian community feeling between its people.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D., the Governor General of Canada, released a statement on the occasion of this important week for Canada. In her statement she thanked volunteers for their work to make Canada a better place, while promoting volunteer activities and sounding advocacy for selfless service to one's neighbours.

Her Excellency the Rt. Hon. Michaëlle Jean[/color], C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D.,]Thousands upon thousands of Canadians, women and men, young and old, have the boldness to dream big dreams and the determination to act for the good of all. They support their fellow citizens in a myriad of ways, including their involvement in sports, arts or community initiatives. Volunteers do make a difference! By generously providing their own personal time, ideas and effort, these people are deeply committed to challenging indifference.
