Gold moved higher in choppy trading on Friday after nine straight sessions of losses, the precious metal's worst losing streak in more than 40 years, as the dollar extended its rally.

Spot gold wavered between positive and negative territory after falling more than a dollar earlier in the day. It last traded around $1,153.

Gold's losing run up to Thursday was the worst since August 1973, when prices fell 10 days in a row.

U.S. gold for April delivery held gains after turning negative earlier Friday. It last traded up 80 cents above $1,152.

The metal was headed for its sixth weekly loss in the past seven, down 1.3 percent so far and having hit its lowest in more than three months at $1,147.10 on Wednesday.
