At least we've got oil right?

Potash Corp. slashing 18% of work force as ‘challenging market’ weighs

Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan is slashing its work force by 18 per cent at a time of widespread turmoil in the fertilizer market.

The agriculture giant said Tuesday it will cut 440 jobs in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, 130 in New Brunswick, 350 in Florida, 85 in North Carolina, and 40 in other U.S. regions and Trinidad.

The company is also ceasing, suspending or cutting production at several operations.

“Despite confidence in the long-term drivers of our business, a significant portion of fertilizer demand comes from developing markets where growth has been less robust than expected,” the Saskatchewan-based company said in a statement.

Wow. You're actually allowed to slash your employees in Saskatchewan? That's pretty harsh.

I guess petros was right about Canadian human rights law not applying in Saskatchewan.

Go Riders!

We've got oil? 55% of our economy is finance that moved from ON over the past 20 years. We'll be fine.

More and more evidence mounts of other industries suffering because of our focus on a limited resource and you think we're fine?

That would be focus on industries that make money and produce jobs. WHy would we pump resources into industries that are shedding jobs?

“The rapid pace of oilsands development is creating economic risks and regional disparities that need to be addressed,” the Pembina Institute said in a report released this week.

The report said the “overwhelming majority” of economic benefits from the oilsands boom “are limited to Alberta. Other provinces will benefit less: even the United States would gain more employment opportunities from the oilsands than the rest of Canada if oilsands development goes ahead as projected.”

Would you stay up until 5AM to catch a train that is 4 hours late?

1.31 million barrels per day is produced from wells. 1.7 from oilsands. It won't be long before conventional surpasses oilsands thanks to SK.

Wait. . . would that be a 1 a.m. train that doesn't arrive until 5, or a 5 a.m. train that doesn't arrive until 9?
Check there schedual for the three stops in SK. All are after 12AM and always 4-5 hours late. We tend to fly around here. We can afford it.

I may just have to wander on up there. The nouveau riche tend to discover the joys of suing each other. Fish in a barrel.
