Strip clubs, with flashy signs advertising nude dancers, once had a strong footing in downtown centres across Canada.


But as Cheetah's Show Lounge in Kelowna, B.C. closes its doors, an adult industry insider says strip clubs are an endangered species being killed off by lack of demand.


"The market demand for adult entertainment clubs is a male around a certain age," Tim Lambrinos, director of the Adult Entertainment Association of Canada.


It seems that young Canadian males are more distracted with other types of interests — Game Boys, plugging in things and so on and it's almost as if the young women are the ones bringing them out to the clubs now."


Cheetah's closure leaves only one strip club in the city of more than 100,000 residents. According to the association, that trend is the same in other big cities — Toronto had 63 strip clubs a decade ago, now it only has 14.




A spokesperson for the City of Kelowna said Cheetah's received three noise complaints and four requests to clean up graffiti since 2011, which he said is "pretty typical" for an after-hours business.


RCMP in Kelowna told the CBC they don't have any particular concerns with strip clubs in the city.

The real reason the Strip Clubs are closing is because new residential condominiums are being built downtown.. and people don't want to live near a strip club with gang activity.

Where many TV Movies had been filmed, has been replaced with a new condominium building.

Strip clubs are alive an well in Miami.. the best dam strip clubs in North America..

They are totally nude on Ontario. Private rooms and couches are the touching places.

In my city, Oshawa, ON they have refused to give zoning to new strip clubs, even ones that came with redevelopment which in of itself would have been great for the neighborhood.

I don't go there anymore. The prostitution is what keeps me away.

I live in Kelowna didn't make a ripple in news circles. The thing is going downtown
at night is not the place to be too much other crap going on according to younger
family members. There are other clubs with country music and so on to attract the
crowds. I remember when I managed night clubs in the Kelowna from 1979 through
1982 or 83 strip clubs had a place but never the majority of audience either. The
downtown core had rock bands or DJ's or they went country. I had one bar downstairs
a country format and upstairs mixed music graffiti fifties and sixties, commercial rock
or light rock and country music packed every night. Strip clubs there were 3 as I recall
but they never reached the number one bar status. Strip clubs today attract the wrong
crowd from a money making standpoint and they don't attract women.
The secret is to get a mix of people and have a lot of women patrons strip clubs have a
shelf life cause the don't attract women

It was mentioned earlier that you can watch it all for free from home because all the young people have the internet.

And unless you go to the nice clubs, like say Brandy's in Vancouver, you're most likely watching a girl who doesn't really dance, hasn't any real costumes and is most likely a junky. If you're looking for that kind of girl, you can get a free show and a happy ending from the protistutes on the street for less.

For the older crowd who use to go for a beer at lunch or after work and watch the girls, those guys all much older now and those girls are young enough to be their daughters. The 70's and 80's are over.

We use to like to go and watch the girls dance. But now they're younger then my daughter in some cases and that's just gross.
