VANCOUVER - Infamous convicted dog-killer Brian Whitlock has been charged with second-degree murder.
After an eight-hour standoff that ended early Sunday morning, police arrested the 28-year-old man in connection with the death of a woman found inside a home near Balaclava St. in Vancouver. Police have not yet revealed the identity of the victim.
Neighbours say the home belongs to his mother, Barbara.
In June 2013, Whitlock was convicted of animal cruelty after striking the head of a German shepherd multiple times and putting the dog in a dumpster. Left with extreme neurological and spinal injuries, the dog later died.
Whitlock was diagnosed with psychosis in June 2012 — a few weeks prior to killing the dog in July – and was sentenced to 60 days jail time and a lifetime ban on owning pets. Due to time previously spent in custody, Whitlock only served seven days.
Whitlock was scheduled to appear in court Monday.

I have to admit that the title of the thread confused me for a moment. "They can convict someone with murder for killing dogs now?", I thought briefly.
