I was never much of a gambler...

But when Pro Line arrived in the early 90's, the odds were really good. I had a $20 pro line ticket which had San Jose beating the Leafs. My other games already came through for me on the ticket.

So I'm watching the game...the Sharks are up by a goal and Dave Ellet, the journeyman defenceman for Toronto scores with 23 friggin seconds left in the game to tie it up!!

Cost me $20,000!! I'm STILL pissed!

Any stories out there about 'the one that got away'?

Many years ago, maybe 20, I heard of a case where a guy inherited a small fortune (maybe $100 grand) and bought 6/49 tickets with the whole sh*teree! :) :)

Yah I'll play any poker game with you for any stake anytime . And I will win handily .

Do you seriously think that I would do something so bizarrely stupid as risking my hard earned money in a game of cards?

Are you really for real?

If you are supporting a family in anyway, it is utterly irresponsible to risk a nickel of their resources on a poker game run for the benefit of your fragile sense of machismo.

Hillbilly man-children ... no wonder your political instincts are so simple minded.

Save your poker game for another hillbilly like you, Cletis.

Here's my gambling story:

I asked the teller to give me the winning ticket. He said if he knew what it was, he would have bought it himself.

We both laughed.

On another occasion, I said I never lost at gambling because I never gambled. It put a smile.

gotta love lose gambling stories.

One time, I was driving to the gas station. I passed a convenience store. This crazy urge hit me to stop and buy a ticket. I did. This is crazy I thought!

And I was right, of course. I didn't win. What a crazy idea!

Politican speak:

"If you vote for me, I'll increase funding for addiction-recovery programs to help gambling addicts."

Translation:

"I'll deregulate the gambling industry and raise taxes on it to get problem gamblers to fill the coffers from which we'll give a portion back to them in the form of therapy. The other portion will go towards advertising our casinos."

Here in Ontario, it was the Bob Rae NDP who built mini casinos and slot machine parlours all over the province as a "creative new way to increase revenues." I wonder what their hero Karl Marx would have said to that?

Marx must have been rolling in grave.

Why not raise revenues through heroin dens too?

I used to go to the casino for sh*ts and giggles from time to time. One night was turning out to be a real stinker. I'd lost almost $1000 in just a couple of hours. It felt like any luck that got anywhere near me said "Screw that guy, he's poison." I only had a couple of bucks left of what I brought so I decided to leave. As I headed for the exit there was a whole row of $2 dollar slots that was filled with people, except this one Cleopatra slot that "called" me. I thought what the hell and went for it. Bang! $16,000 jackpot. I haven't been to a casino since.

Yeah, luck like that happens occasionally. I hope you are not depriving yourself of something you enjoy. My rule of thumb is I never take more money to the casino than I can afford to lose. If you just stick to playing nickels and dimes it's generally a lot cheaper than many other pastimes. I shudder when I see people going through $100 in five minutes. It seems to happen a lot.
