Watched the first episode of the new, very British, BBC sitcom Detectorists last night on BBC Four.

Detectorists is all about digging. Mackenzie Crook (who is best known for playing Gareth Keenan in The Office, Ragetti in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, and Orell in Game of Thrones), who is also the writer and director, plays Andy and Toby Jones plays Lance, two treasure hunters looking for a big find in the Essex countryside, but usually unearthing 1980s ring pulls and foil biscuit wrappers.

Lance still holds a candle (quite literally at one point) for his ex-wife Mags, who has run off with the Pizza Hut manager played by the appropriately-named Adam Riches.

Andy, meanwhile, is in a relationship with Becky (Rachael Stirling) but he spends Saturday night in the pub down the road with Lance leaving her at home and suggesting that all is not as it seems.

However, following a chance encounter with a young history student, Lance and Andy embark on a journey towards the discovery of a lifetime. All they need to do is get permission from the local landowner, the mad one who is rumoured to have done away with his wife.
