In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty at the hands of a malevolent slave owner, as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. Amazing film, just finished watching it... although trying to peal me off the ceiling in an angry fit, wanting to shoot the slave owners...

I found this movie to be heartbreaking and spirit zapping. It had a, thankfully, happy ending. But the injustice of that era, the injustice of this happening to a human being is heartbreaking.
