The Star Trek capital of Canada is boldly taking its passion where no crowd-funding campaign has gone before.
The town of Vulcan, Alta., has taken to Indiegogo to help raise a whopping $2 billion to build a full-sized USS Enterprise — but the campaign isn't real.
“The Indiegogo campaign currently running to help Vulcan build the U.S.S Enterprise is a marketing campaign to advertise the Canadian Badlands region of Alberta and feature Vulcan," vulcantourism.com reads.
"This campaign was conceived and produced by Canadian Badlands Ltd. The campaign is meant to be filled with fun, fantasy and generate discussion and attention. Just imagine if we really COULD build the Enterprise!"
The Indiegogo pages asks for money "in order to fund important research into the creation, and development, of warp-drive technology."
This is the first stage of a "40-year, $1.132-trillion project to build a 1:1-scale, fully functional U.S.S. Enterprise starship" the website reads.
“Upon reaching our initial funding goal we will construct a research centre in Vulcan that will become a repository for everything we, as a species, know about faster-than-light travel, gravity control and more.”
So far, the project has raised a bit over $2,000 with 38 days left to reach the goal.
Some of the perks for donating include an invitation to warp drive debut if you give $10,000 and having your name attached to the Vulcan spaceport with a $1-million donation.
Vulcan is a town of less than 2,000 in southern Alberta, famous for its name, which is has in common with a race from the fictional Star Trek film and television franchise.
The town posted a note on its site asking people not to send them any actual money.
“Note all donations already made will be returned to the donors as the target will not be reached, as per Indiegogo rules.”
The USS Enterprise is pictured in this movie still from the 2009 film Star Trek.

There, we have insane people in Alberta, fortunately that is close to an Air-base with all sorts of 'hangers'. If it cost $1B for security in Toronto these guys would do it for considerably less ......
Sask doesn't mind as they are something other than a wheat plant on the horizon.
The best combine pilots come from that area, straightest lines ever, (in the field and on the bar) as they know bobbing and weaving doesn't help in the end and you just end up capture and tired and a bit dizzy.
