Psilocybin, the nootropic compound found within psychoactive mushroom species, is proving to be the medicinal key to eradicating mental illnesses and returning lost cognitive ability. Published in Experimental Brain Research, a study conducted by lead researcher Dr. Juan R. Sanchez and his team investigated psilocybin's ability to bind certain receptors in the brain which stimulate healing and growth. Results showed that psilocybin's effect on the mind vitalizes the reparation of damaged brain cells and is also highly effective in relieving depression and PTSD.

For the study, mice that had been conditioned to hearing a noise prior to receiving a shock were treated with psilocybin. The behavior of the mice that were treated was then compared to those that received a saline treatment. This comparison demonstrated that the mice that were given a carefully calculated dosage of psilocybin showed little or no fear response to hearing the noise-trigger whereas the saline-treated mice continued to panic in anticipation every time. Some of the mice were given an excessive dose of psilocybin which resulted in an even greater, more intense fear response than before, showing that if psilocybin is to be accepted as a medicine, then it must be respected as a medicine.

Not surprised. There are various "illegal" drugs out there that have definite medical and/or therapeutic qualities when dosaged properly and taken as directed, and even legal ones like alcohol and nicotine. The problem, as always, is the abuse of the various substances.

I almost killed myself with magic mushrooms back in the early 80's.

Psilocybin is a poison, it alters the brain by screwing up sensory perception. This article is very similar to ideas once proposed by Albert Hoffman in regard to LSD, and we all know how that worked out.

Don't know how that happened. Try this one: [Tome] | Psilocybin Mushrooms Found to Grow and Repair Brain Cells - TIMEWHEEL

I have never heard of anybody being poisoned by Psilocybin before. They may have been spiked, like they use to spike LSD with poison. I almost died in the early 70s from bad MDA - strychnine.

Hoffman was experimenting with LSD right up until his death. It has had a lot of success in treating many mental illnesses. It is also a cure for the common cold.

At it's core it is a poison, just as alcohol is a poison. That is what alters the mind.

Hoffman was experimenting with LSD right up until his death. It has had a lot of success in treating many mental illnesses. It is also a cure for the common cold.

Yes, the CIA used it in a bunch of great experiments. Hoffman's experimentation with the mentally ill was fruitless. LSD also resulted in suicides and give me a break on the cure for the common cold.

Just because something occurs naturally, does not mean it is not a poison.

Obviously he needs more shrooms

That explains him......

What about Mhz..........?
Peyote and mescalin, and being a natural inquisitive person.

Not today... Yet.
I believe the use is for a certain period of time and then the 'cure' is in place for the rest of your life. You probably also have to use them before your mindset is fully in place. (that means you old farts here tre out of luck no matter how many you would take)

Megahurtz is just flat out insane.
Considering you always come in second in our debates what would that make you? (yes I do have the correct answer for that one also)

Because he was high as a kite!
You forgot to mention the lightning storm that is part 'b' of the 'go fly a kite formula'.

At it's core it is a poison, just as alcohol is a poison. That is what alters the mind.
That certainly explains politicians and ceo's and banksters.

They are the same thing, do you always repeat yourself in the same sentence. The Indians better jump on this as they should have tha 'natural rights' to supply many of these substances in their casino's turned into healing centers, known collectively as the 'Smoke House'.

.
The CIA never told the 'patients' they were getting any mind altering substance. Knowing some change is bound to happen makes all the difference in the kind of experience you have. Slip somebody something, then or now, is a good way to end up face down in a ditch, or so the rumor goes.

MEMO to the usual subjects, man you guys are ****ing slow on all fronts.

the problem with mushrooms or any of the pyschadelics is that if the mind of the person using them is full of fear, anger and insecurity and they're with people whom they don't trust fully their "trip" is going to be a bad one. If you're relaxed, at peace with yourself, around people you're comfortable with you can have an excellent adventure.

The research into the medical benefits of these on the mind was stymied by the hippies. Legitimate research facilities were unable to get funding because of the "counter-culture" and the worry that any such research would be deemed "people just wanting to get high" by the puritanical morality police.

Thank fully, this knee jerk society is fading away rapidly by a much more progressive society who isn't interested in what June Cleaver feels is right for the all of society.

I think I remember Cheech Marin took some of those in the movie nice dreams. He ended up in a padded cell in a straight jacket scooting across the floor crying out, "my balls itch!"

If you were in a straight jacket and your balls itched, you would do the same thing.

Twila I don't want to engender bad feelings but in the present western configuration of alleged civilization the term "progressive society" has very little in the way of tangible substantialization and very much of unrealizable nirvanic idealization well illustrated by the now infamous " hope and change" road show of the most recent selection of the most illustrious of the " progressive society" warriors
BH Obama. Rather than our western society progressing we have definite tangible regression of outstanding visability. Of course just because I don't see any societal progress does not mean it is not underway.
