A Gary, Ind., family's claims they live in a demon-possessed haunted house has a local nurse, church officials and even the police captain convinced something supernatural was at work.
Capt. Charles Austin said he initially assumed the family was telling tall tales, but after several visits to the home, he says he's convinced.
"I am a believer," Austin told the Indianapolis Star, which obtained 800 pages of official record about the case.
Latoya Ammons claimed that she, her seven- and nine-year-old boys and her 12-year-old girl were all possessed.
Child services became involved when the nine-year-old boy ended up in hospital after Ammons claims he was flung across the room under the control of a demon.
Nurse Willie Lee Walker claims to have seen the boy walk backwards up a wall.
Rev. Michael Maginot performed an exorcism on Ammons, the first of its kind in the diocese' 21-year history.
The children were eventually returned to Ammons.
