Hi everybody.

I'm from Japan, and I go to college in AB.
I'm thinking of getting a drivers licence in AB.

My friends told me that after I get a learners licence (class 7), I need to wait for an year to upgrade to a class 5 licence.
But I want to get a class 5 licence by next spring.
I'm planning to going to driving school, but do I still have to wait for an year?

Thanks for your time

I'm not sure but you might try the following web site.
http://www.servicealberta.ca/index.c...ers:newlicence

You can also send them your question on this page, just make sure you enter your e-mail address in the "optional field" box so they can reply.

Your friend is correct. You have to get a class 7 learners and wait for one year.

The way I read the requirements, you will not be able to get a class 5 until after both your year (or more) of having a class 7 AND TWO probationary years. So no, you won't be able to get a class 5 license by next spring.
