I have never heard of that! But on the other hand, maybe there is a cultural/lanuage barrier issue and i'm sure that there are some ignorant jerks out there. But i have never heard of anything like that, at least in Edmonton, we have quite a prominant french community. Maybe in Calgary? I dunno.

I used to work with a guy from Montreal when I lived in Edmonton. I live in the SE corner of the province now and work with another guy from Montreal. The only time they ever had a problem is when they wore their Habs jerseys.

I would recommend Calgary or Red Deer before I would Edmonton... Calgary is a terrific city, been there many times and my sister is a police officer in Calgary and my other sister drives city bus there.

Andem... I beleive it is called "Racial Profiling" comparing a specific race to specific behaviors. Regardless of your stats... You labeled 2 people incorrectly:
1. "Jersay, since you are big on jumping on people calling them racists... I took your suggestion and checked the statistics."
-Jersay NEVER called anyone a racist.

2. "Because somebody is of a certain race, they're wrongly convicted? That's pretty blatantly racist."
-Lisa was trying to express her frustration that because of "Racial Profiling" innocent people are often convicted of crimes they didn't commit.

Andem, maybe you ought to think about what you write before you hit the "Submit" button. - just a suggestion from me.

Lisa - If you and you're moms heart is set on Edmonton, just go... you'll find that adventure you spoke of. However, if Edmonton was just a thought and it really doesn't matter which city you call your destination... Investigate Calgary, Red Deer, Medicine Hat (where my wife and I are moving mid July 2006) or Lethbridge. Alberta is a vast and diverse place with terrific opportunities.

Before you make your move, PLEASE, PLEASE ensure you have a place to live. The even tho' the rents are quite high, the vacancy rate is very low. You'll need at least 2 months rent, in advance (one for a "damage" deposit). You'll most likely need a couple of K's to get started with rent, utility hook-ups, groceries etc.. Many people have come here only to find out they can't find a place to live. Just be aware of that by being prepared. Otherwise, no one should have a hard time finding work - there's "tons" of stuff to do out there.

As for Quebecers coming here - if you are personable and willing to communicate your best in English (and are patient with people trying to learn French, ) you'll get along just fine. Anyone who treats you otherwise is ignorant period! Unfortunately, there are always individuals who will treat you differently and they make us all look bad. However, the majority of us welcome people from whereever and are just happy to get to know you.

Good Luck!!
