Alberta NDP's locomotive fuel tax another attack on oil industry that will hurt all businesses

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Foz8W7rnQoU

Effective November 1 the locomotive fuel tax jumped from a cent and a half per liter to five and a half cents per liter. Now dealing in cents, that may not seem like much but the increase was a 367% jump in the locomotive fuel tax rate, overnight.

Both farmers and the lumber industry rely heavily on rail. They'll be hurt by this tax jump but they're only collateral damage. This tax hike was targeted to attack the oil industry.

What's the next best plan for a landlocked resource being bottle necked without pipeline capacity? Rail. And so Notley attacked rail.

The locomotive pipeline is just another pipeline the NDP wants stopped.

Four of Canada's largest oil sands producers have come together to demonstrate leadership on climate change. Canadian Natural Resources Limited, Cenovus Energy Inc., Shell Canada Limited and Suncor Energy Inc., support the Government of Alberta's climate plan related to the oil and natural gas industry, which includes a carbon pricing regime coupled with an overall emissions limit for the oil sands. These measures provide predictability and certainty and will help ensure that producers can responsibly develop and grow this significant Canadian resource while also addressing global concerns about climate change.

The companies agree that this is a historic development for Alberta and Canada that will change the conversation about climate change, oil sands and infrastructure. They are proud to have worked with leading environmental organizations to better understand each other's views and recommend solutions for the oil and natural gas industry that helped inform the policy.

By directing revenue generated from the new carbon pricing regime towards the development of potentially game-changing greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction technologies, this made-in-Alberta plan lays the foundation for the province to become a global leader in addressing the climate change challenge. It also creates the conditions for Alberta's oil to become carbon competitive on the global stage and for Canadians to begin receiving full value for their oil exports.

By demonstrating that Alberta is willing to lead the way with an ambitious climate plan, the province can become a preferred source for oil and create sustained wealth and jobs for future generations of Albertans and Canadians.

Of course they agree, oil and gas created the "global warming" myth to get you to pay to make them more efficient.

Sure she'd attack rail. Hell, all you have to do is dis a rusty old pipe in these forums to see what sort of wrath attacking pipelines would incur

5 totally irrational reactions to Alberta's new Climate Leadership Plan

Following the Alberta government's unveiling of its new Climate Leadership Plan, groups ranging from environmentalists to oil companies lined up to pledge their support for the province's new climate change strategy.
The CEO of Suncor called it "a milestone in ensuring Alberta’s valuable resource is accompanied by leading carbon policy," while the David Suzuki Foundation said "it's another example of the way Canadian provinces and cities are leading the way on climate change while strengthening and diversifying their economies."
But not everyone was convinced.
Here are five of the more irrational reactions to the new plan:

I'm not sure if Notley's policies are in line with federal NDP's policies of if my local guy was the one out of touch. Though Claude Gravelle lost out to a Liberal, his idea for Energy East and mine were the same - a purpose-built pipe

THe NDP plan, if one could call it that was to have a study. Followed by a commission. Then another study by a select committee. Followed by............until all the party faithful got their turn at the government trough.
